Library Services Support Officer



Full Time, Term Time



Monday to Friday



8.00am – 4.00pm


St Hilda’s School seeks to appoint a Library Services Support Officer whose primary role is to provide support and service to staff, students and the general school community. The Library Services Support Officer works closely with Library Assistants as part of a service team providing assistance to the School Librarian (Middle Senior Campus) and Head of St Hilda’s Learning Institute by providing library service, technical and administrative support needed for the library to function.


Selection Criteria



Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Assisting students and staff locate library resources for assessments through the use of specific library resources such as books and databases
  • Reshelve, shelf check and maintain resources (including covering and labelling)
  • Promote resources assisting with library and collection displays (physical and digital), reviews and materials ensuring the library is an inviting and comfortable space
  • Ensure spaces are clean and tidy
  • Supervision of students as required
  • Assistance with library initiatives and activities
  • Circulation desk duty and answering of phone calls and emails
  • Assisting with room and AV bookings if required
  • Opening and closing of the library resource centre
  • Operation and maintain Library AV and IT equipment
  • Use library software system
  • Accessioning, cataloguing and processing new resources
  • Provide regular feedback to Library and Information Officer on the type of assistance requested by teachers and students and recommend enhancements to services to maximise efficiency
  • Assist School Librarian and Heads of Faculty with classroom activities
  • Assist with events such as Book week, author visits and clubs if directed
  • Assist with creation of library procedures as needed
  • Assist School Librarian and Head of St Hilda’s Learning Institute with weeding and stocktaking
  • Make collection development recommendations and contribute to the list of recommended books to purchase for the main collection
  • Generate overdue notices for students and staff
  • Liaise with IT Department and Maintenance on equipment as required
  • Supervision and training of staff in all lower levels in the absence of the School Librarian

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum Certificate III or Diploma Level – Library and Information Services essential
  • Previous library computer-based applications an advantage
  • Previous work in a school or university environment highly regarded
  • Excellent Mac environment knowledge (Mac OSX, Pages, Keynote)
  • Use of Office 365 tools and resources
  • Experience using acquisitions module of Oliver Library Management system highly regarded
  • Sound knowledge of various multimedia applications an advantage
  • Database entry experience essential – TASS experience an advantage
  • Use an office suite computer based application at an intermediate level
  • Current Blue Card, First Aid, CPR or willing to obtain prior to commencement
  • This role must be performed on school campus due to front facing customer service element with students and staff
